Heike Schwermer and Vanessa Steinweg will participate and present their poster on "Fish, Fisheries & Culture - A Transdisciplinary Look at Western Baltic Fisheries":

The western Baltic Sea is under massive pressure. Due to negative anthropogenic effects such as climate change, eutrophication and overfishing, there is a change in the ecosystems along the coast as well as within the fisheries and their culture. Further reason for this structural change is a declining income in the fishery due to severe catch quota reductions of herring and cod. Even though fishers and their cutters are figureheads for tourism, this is not reflected in their income.

A transdisciplinary view of the system supports a sustainable transformation in the fisheries. The prerequisite is a better mutual understanding between the diverse groups. The poster shows how conflicts over space and resources described by different stakeholders and the importance of local management on the ecological, social and ecological, social and economic level (vulnerability analysis).
