Job opening for a resource economist (Postdoc)

We are looking for a researcher in the field of resource economics starting 01.11.2024.

Your tasks:

  • Innovative research in one of the following areas: 

(A) Development and application of dynamic bioeconomic models, e.g. considering different technologies, 

(B) Development of models that take into account uncertainty and cognitive biases of actors, 

(C) Use of quantitative methods (e.g. algorithms from the field of artificial intelligence) to analyze data or optimize novel bioeconomic models 

(D) Analysis of the institutional framework necessary for the sustainable use of interacting natural resources

  • Collaboration in the development of an assessment framework for the management of interacting natural resources and their ecosystem services

  • Participation in interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration within third-party funded projects 

  • Writing scientific papers and publishing them in scientific journals

  • Presentation of results at national and international conferences

  • Participation in teaching (exercise sessions, seminars, theses) at Bachelor's and Master's level 

 

Your profile:

  • Completed (at the time of starting the job) academic university degree (Master's or equivalent) in economics or a related field with a good or very good grade 

  • For applications from Postdocs: a doctorate in economics or a related field with good or very good results 

  • Strong research interest in the field of environmental and resource economics 

  • Quantitative skills (programming, modeling, statistics)

  • Very good English communication skills (written and spoken, ~ C2 based on https://www.europaeischer-referenzrahmen.de

  • Good German language skills (~ B2, see above)

  • Innovative, and well-organized independent and autonomous way of working 

  • Experience in inter- and transdisciplinary project work as well as international experience is an advantage 

 

We are looking for a motivated person who integrates well into our team and whose research fits the research agenda of the professorship.

Your new team:

The Professorship of Political Economy of Resource Management leads an interdisciplinary center to promote exchange between science and society related to marine and coastal resources (Center for Ocean and Society), and is part of an international research network with partners in France, Sweden, Denmark and Canada, among others; international research stays are therefore possible. The successful applicant will benefit from an active, disciplinary and interdisciplinary research environment that facilitates collaboration to answer open research questions in the field of natural resource management and establishes links to non-academic decision makers. The latter can also open up future job opportunities outside academia. Kiel has an active group of (environmental and resource) economists.
