New Scientific Advisory Board for Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan 2030 established
19.06.2025

On June 12, 2025, at the invitation of Minister President Daniel Günther, the Scientific Advisory Board for the Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan 2030 (APOS) was constituted at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel.
Sixteen experts from various disciplines, six of them are from the priority research area KMS, will advise the state government on implementing the largest Baltic Sea protection program in Schleswig-Holstein's history. The aim is to implement the planned measures in a scientifically sound, effective, and sustainable manner.
The interdisciplinary advisory board will focus on helping to analyze environmental data, identify developments at an early stage, and further develop protection strategies. Prof. Ursula Siebert from the Institute of Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research (ITAW) was elected chair. The Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan 2030 includes the designation of strictly protected marine areas, a reduction in nutrient inputs, and the recovery of old munitions.
