Science meets Society - Concepts, methods and case studies of transdisciplinary (marine) research (biol-OceanEducation-01a)

14.10.2024

A series of seminars organised by the Center for Ocean and Society (CeOS) of the KMS research focus and the Interdisciplinary Master School of Marine Sciences (iMSMS) at Kiel University.

WHO? The event is aimed equally at students of all disciplines (2 ECTS), young scientists and the general public.

WHERE? In person seminar in the CeOS seminar room, Neufeldtstraße 10, 24118 Kiel

WHEN? Wednesdays, 13-15h, on 23.10.24, 06.11.24, 20.11.24, 04.12.24, 18.12.24, 08.01.25, 22.01.25, 05.02.25

WHY? Transdisciplinarity is a research approach that involves social stakeholders in the research process. Thus, solution-oriented work is carried out on complex, real-world topics. As part of the course, we would like to inform you as young scientists and the public about the still relatively young transdisciplinary research approach and sensitize and interest you in model projects in the marine subject area.

WHAT: You will learn about the different definitions and basic concepts of transdisciplinary research and gain an insight into the funding opportunities, chances and challenges of this approach. In the workshops, you will develop a toolbox of methods for planning and implementing transdisciplinary research projects. This insight into theory and methodology will be illustrated by numerous practical case studies. Finally, you will be asked to transfer the learning content to your own field of research and develop ideas and initial approaches for application in your own subject area.
