(2.6.2021) “The ocean we need for the future we want” Germany launches UN Ocean decade in virtual event
The ocean is the largest ecosystem on earth and vital for all our survival. Unfortunately, the ocean is under massive threat, largely in part to human activities both on land and sea. The UN proclaimed International Decade of Ocean Research for Sustainable Development begins this month, aiming to find solutions for the protection and sustainable use of the ocean by joining forces with policymakers, society, and economic actors. On Wednesday June 2 2021, the day after the international launch, the Ocean Decade for Germany will celebrate its opening in a virtual event. The German Ocean Decade Committee (ODK) will present and open the floor for discussions: “What could the decade change in Germany? How can you get involved? What are the expectations?” and many more questions. Representatives from different fields will come together to lead and participate in these discussions. The ODK invites everyone to participate in this exciting event, beginning at 9am, German time.
And at 1pm, the get-together and workshops of the virtual event will take place in our center’s Gather.town space, which has been expanded to accommodate the Ocean Decade. The rooms allow for interactive and open discussions between all parties and make way for solution-based plans to be created, even during a global pandemic.
We look forward to this exciting launch, and if your interest has been awakened, you will find more information, a livestream of the event and registration here: https://ozeandekade.de/tour/die-ozeandekade-in-deutschland/
