How can we improve the ecological status of the Baltic Sea? The problems are manifold: too many nutrients, climate change, or conflicts of utilization between fishing, nature conservation, marine and tourism. In order to tackle these complex challenges, Kiel University is using the ‘real-world laboratory’ method: Scientists work together with all local stakeholders to develop solutions and test their effectiveness. Dr Christian Wagner-Ahlfs presents experiences from Eckernförde Bay, Stein-Wendtorf and Wismar Bay.
