As part of the team “Marine and Coastal Resources Economy”, she is studying exogenous influences on artisanal coastal fisheries with a geographic focus on the North Atlantic. Carla's doctoral research is also supervised by Prof. Dr. Uwe Jensen of the Institute of Statistics and Econometrics.

Previously, she completed the consecutive master’s degree in "Quantitative Finance" at Kiel University in July 2022. As part of her master’s thesis, she investigated the influences of industrial deep-sea fishing on the incomes of local Senegalese coastal fisheries. This was preceded by a B.Sc. in "Business Administration", which she also completed at Kiel University in 2019. During her studies, she gained additional experience as a research assistant, as well as a mathematics tutor at Kiel University.
