Marta Silva
Vita
Marta Silva is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Management at Kiel University. She was previously a research fellow at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA), Aquatic Research Network (ARNET) at the University of Algarve, where she contributed to the project C-Land: Carbon Storage in Wetlands – Assessment and Maximization (10ID00227).
She holds a BSc in Social Anthropology (2018, ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon) and, driven by the desire to expand her understanding of coastal management beyond social dimensions, she pursued a second BSc in Marine and Coastal Management (2024, University of Algarve).
As part of her degree, Marta completed an internship at the Environmental Interpretative Centre of the Leiria Municipality, where she developed her final project titled Recent Coastline Evolution of Pedrógão Sul Beach. This research assessed the risks of shoreline retreat to local infrastructure and proposed nature-based solutions to enhance coastal resilience. She presented this research at the VI International Congress for Education, Environment, and Development (VI CIEAD) in November 2024 (Leiria, Portugal).
She also gave an oral presentation at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, titled Co-creation Processes for Conservation and Ecosystem Services Management.
Marta’s academic journey reflects a strong focus on coastal resilience, climate change adaptation, and the application of scientific knowledge in support of decision-making. Her skill set includes marine and coastal process analysis, data acquisition and processing (e.g., GIS, Matlab), sustainable resource management, and understanding human–ocean relationships. Through her master’s studies, she aims to deepen her interdisciplinary expertise in integrated coastal zone management, environmental assessment, and science-based climate adaptation strategies.
