Nicolás Valbuena Rincon

Nicolás joined the Center for Ocean and Society in May 2026 as a Ph.D. student and research associate (M.Sc.). His doctoral project focuses on internalising externalities in food system policies to increase diversity and resilience. It is part of the Research Training Group: "DIVERSILIENCE - DIVERSification for Food Systems ResILIENCE", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Prior to that, he completed an M.Sc. in "Agricultural Economics" at the University of Hohenheim in 2025, and a dual B.Sc. in "Economics" and "Political Science" at Los Andes University (Bogota, Colombia) in 2018. In the meantime, he participated in diverse research projects in agricultural, environmental, and development economics, using applied economics methodologies for evidence-based policy analysis in Peru and Colombia.
