From Enlightenment to Action

On September 24-26, 2025, Renato Salvatteci and Rudi Voss represented CeOS at the 2025 All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) Forum in Brussels, Belgium. The event brought together AAORIA partners and stakeholders from across the Atlantic Ocean, fostering engagement within a community dedicated to advancing ocean science and innovation.

A-AAGORA

Rudi Voss presented a powerful gamification approach, which was developed in the EU-project A-AAGORA. Participants were invited to explore an interactive 3D poster with augmented reality elements. This approach promotes stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.

In the game, the player are challenged to solve various fictional cases, each reflecting real-world threats and specific aspects of the coastal socio-ecological systems in the demonstrator regions. The story lines were co-created using a living lab approach and highlight, in a humoristic and entertaining way, the importance of cooperation of different stakeholders to reach successful and widely accepted solutions. The poster attracted a lot of attention and interest, creating a platform for further networking and exchange.

Humboldt Tipping

As part of the AAORIA Forum side event on September 24th, Renato Salvatteci participated in the session “From Vulnerability toResiliency: Co-Designing Coastal Resilience Pathways,” where he presented the Humboldt Tipping project: a transdisciplinary collaboration between Peru and Germany. The project explores how the Humboldt Current system may change under different global futures and how fisheries can adapt to secure livelihoods and food systems.

Renato highlighted the co-creation of Shared Socioeconomic Pathway scenarios with scientists, fishers, and policymakers, showing how participatory, science-based planning can strengthen coastal resilience. His talk was very well received, sparking many questions and a lively discussion with the audience.

CeOS’s participation at the AAORIA Forum 2025 underscores our ongoing commitment to collaborative, science-based solutions and outreach. Events like this are essential for strengthening networks and sharing our approaches and tools.
